I can't remember how I stumbled across the The Ohio SeryMyu Group but as soon as I did I knew I just had to email Amanda and ask her for more information about this Sailor Moon musical group she's putting together.
Thankfully she agreed and this is the interview we had over several emails. Enjoy.
Thanks so much for taking the time for this interview! Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
My name's Amanda, I'm 19 years old. I first got into Sailor Moon when I was a little girl, and it's been with me ever since. I discovered the Sailor Moon Musicals not all too long ago, but fell in love with them immediately. I've been a big fan of musicals for many years, so I definitely was excited to see both interests come together to create an amazing stage production.
Currently I'm working to go to college in the future. Eventually, I would like to travel and experience different cultures and languages first hand.
Wow. You're only 19 and you're organising your own theatre group pretty much! What kind of things do you expect your group to do?
For now, we're taking things kind of slow, while we get to know each other better. We have one performance planned for the group at the moment, which will just be one song. From there, I'll have a better idea of how everyone does in an actual performance, and be able to take the group to a new level.
I hope to be able to perform many songs with the group, and make memories as friends doing something we all enjoy.
I guess I have to ask, you'll be singing the Sailor Moon Musical song in Japanese right? How's everyone's Japanese in the group?
Everyone has pretty good pronunciation. A few of our members are currently taking Japanese classes, so they're able to help the others. Singing is easier than talking, so I'm sure we'll be alright.
So what qualifications do people need to join your group?
The drive to work hard, and an open mind. I think that's part of what makes us different than other groups that I've seen. If you can't sing or dance, thats fine. We're willing to work with you in the areas you need help.
We'll even help you with your costume, if you need. As long as you're willing to learn, and give us your best, that's all I ask from any of our members.
That sounds great! What roles are open for application right now, or will the performers rotate depending on the performance?
As of right now, we have openings for: Sailor Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Neptune, and Pluto. We're not sure if we'll cast a Chibi Moon yet, but anyone who would like to may still apply for her.
No Luna and Artemis?
I don't think we'll be casting a Luna and Artemis, unless we happen to do a remake of the Gaiden musical. Although, if anyone would like to apply for them, I'll be happy to reconsider it.
How can people apply?
You can apply at our LiveJournal community, Ohio SeraMyu. You don't need a LiveJournal to apply. In the near future, we'll have a website up for those who don't normally venture to LiveJournal, but for now, it's temporarily unavailable, until we can find somewhere to host it. The application itself may seem a little intimidating, but it's really just to help us get an idea of who you are.
Sounds excellent! Any last words to potential applicants or curious
visitors?
If you're even the slightest bit interested, check us out. We're always open to questions and comments, so don't feel shy asking questions. If you'd like to talk with me before you decide anything, I'd be happy to explain everything to you one-on-one. We're very honored to have the great members that we have now, and we'd love to have you all as a part of our group, so give us a try. If you find that it's not something thats for you, then thats fine. Also, to everyone that supports us, thank you very much, we surely couldn't do this without you.
Thanks again for your time! It's been a pleasure!
Thank you for interviewing me. We're truely honored.
