The first opening credits for the Sailor Moon anime established a very stylised look, carrying over several aspects from the manga (such as the lace prints and flowers) and incorporating several artistic influences and artworks, creating one of the most memorable anime opening credit sequences from the 90s.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Most of the characters from the first half of the season are shown such as Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask, Luna, Queen Beryl and Jadeite though strangely Sailor Mars and Mercury's identities seem to be hidden in several shots and then obviously completely revealed in others as if the animators weren't sure whether to reveal them to audiences yet.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The song, Moonlight Densetsu (Moonlight Legend), which was itself the inspiration for the English (and other language adaptions) Sailor Moon Theme Song, in fact borrows it's own music from a Japanese song from 1965 called Sayonara wa Dance no Ato ni (Goodbye at the End of the Dance) sung by Chieko Baishou.
![]() ![]() ![]() The version of Moonlight Densetsu used for the first and second season opening credits is sung by DALI, a group who strangely broke up soon after releasing this song.
