Do the Japanese Sailor Moon DVDs have English subtitles?

Unfortunately all the official Japanese DVDs for the anime, live action and musicals don't have English subtitles and only come with one audio track, Japanese. This also includes the new 20th Anniversary DVD Box Sets.

The image and sound though is fantastic and loads better than the Region 1 (North American DVDs) anime DVDs. And since the live action and musicals aren't available on DVD outside of Japan you don't really have a choice with them.

I will say though that I created my Sailor Moon episode guides for this very reason so fans can watch their DVDs (and support Sailor Moon by doing so!) and still understand what's going on.

Even if you speak no Japanese though you may be surprised by how much you understand simply by what's happening on screen. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon in particular is very easy to understand without subtitles, especially if you're familiar with the Sailor Moon anime and manga.

Something worth mentioning is that the musical DVDs have special Japanese karaoke subtitles for almost all of the songs so if you want to practice some Sailor Moon karaoke, these are highly recommended.
