Sailor Moon and Animo 

Some pretty big news today concerning the, what looks to be, return of Sailor Moon!

Almost immediately after the announcement that the rights to Sailor Moon have been released and that the show would once again be airing in Italy and Japan a press release was released announcing a brand new Sailor Moon mobile phone website for users in Japan.

The website offers Sailor Moon mobile phone ring tones (currently the Japanese theme, HEART MOVING and Sailor Star Song) as well as animated downloads and soon (not yet online) all 200 episodes of the anime for download to handsets.

If you have a phone that's web capable, you can check out the site at it's address: http://www.smoon.jp.

Some things worth mentioning is that in the footer of the page the PNP can be seen, showing that Naoko is still involved in the franchise and that there hasn't been any major change in ownership. It's also interesting to see that the Japanese logo for the series simply says "Sailor Moon". There is no mention of "Pretty Soldier", "Pretty Guardian", etc.

Possible re-branding of the series? It's possible (though by no means confirmed).

The third episode of the English Sailor Moon Sailor Stars dub is due out any day now. Prepare yourself with the episode preview!

Have you seen this interview yet? It took place last week and features the Japanese voice actress of Sailor Moon. Most of it's just small talk though it mentions that besides Sailor Moon, her favourite characters are Sailor Uranus and Neptune because she feels the characters appeal to the adults who watch the show.

In site news, I've just added Sailor Moon television Air Times onto the right side navigation to make it easier for everyone to find out when Sailor Moon is returning and airing in their country. If your country isn't there yet, that means that there has yet to be any information it airing yet. If and when such info is announced I will of course add it.

Sailor Moon Music Videos! 

I'm a huge fan of the musicals and while searching for a Musical themed music video to spotlight I came across two, very different, videos.

The first one is a great tribute to the Outers with a music video first and then the farewell messages from the cast.



The second is a very energetic video set to Aqua's Bumblebee.

Nao and Yuka Tribute: Moonie Music Monday 

I was looking for a good Sailor Moon Musical music video and was beginning to think I wouldn't find one.

As soon as I saw this tribute to my two of my favourite performers I was sold.

The creator, Sanouki made the creative decision to mix footage from the musicals as well as fan events and behind the scenes clips and it works extremely well and emotionally captures the entire experience of watching the musicals (all of which are live performances).

Hope this converts some new people into musicals fans. Enjoy!

Where to Buy Sailor Moon Musical DVDs 

Just a quick note to say that I've finished the Shopping Guides for the Sailor Moon Musical DVDs.

The late Miyuki Kanbe's Second Stage Musicals, Marina Kuroki's Second Stage Musicals and her Third Stage Musicals now all have DVD info up.

Unfortunately a LOT of Miyuki Kanbe's and a few of Marina Kuroki's DVDs are now out of stock in most online retailers so you may find a few regular dead text "links" where regular links are.

I think quite a few people should find these pages useful as I get quite a few people asking where to get the DVDs and a couple of the online stores make it almost impossible to find them (i.e. a search for "Sailor Moon" has zero results).

The Coming of Princess Kakyu 

Just saw the Sailor Moon Musical, SECOND STAGE FINAL: The Coming of Princess Kakyu for the first time and wrote the guide for it at the same time.

What a great musical! There have been so many "Sailor Stars" musicals but (as with all of Marina's musicals) they used the basic plot of the original, improved it dramatically, added lots of new characterisation and a bunch of new songs. Also lots of superior dance moves, special & visual effects and a hell of a performance by Yu Shirota which made him my number one favourite Tuxedo Mask out of all the actors that have played the role. Talk about talented! Check out this clip from the musical performing Kaze no Shijin / The Poet of the Wind:

Sailor Moon Roundup 

Quite a few sites updating for the New Year!

The Sailor Moon Funny Faces Gallery which has been updating heaps lately has updated again with some new icons, galleries and some sad news about someone direct linking to her site. This same person has also been doing the same to U&MUniverse.com.
For those that don't know, when you link to an image's location that is hosted on someone else's website (i.e. not yours) it costs that person money. For example if you post on discussion forums, you should ALWAYS upload your avatar to the forum itself instead of linking to it's web (http://) online location.
Direct linking is inconsiderate and in the worst case, insulting to the person who spent time to make the file as sometimes people even link to the files and claim that they made them.
P.S. All icons and avatars on Moonkitty.NET are free for use but please don't link to the files. Save them and them upload them to your own account for use. Wallpapers and other graphics are for users own personal use and cannot be uploaded to other websites.

Update: As I was writing this, Usagi from U&MUniverse.com emailed me to inform me that this ba*&@^%rd is direct linking to all of my Christmas icons!!! Grrrrrrr!!!! I've left a comment for him and emailed his hosting company asking them to delete his account or at least give him a warning. I'm a nice guy, but this won't be tolerated! It's costing me money, man!

The Oracle has done some extensive updating on several pages.

There's an interesting discussion about the Sailor Moon rights going on over at Genvid.

I'm starting to feel a bit depressed. While working on my Sailor Moon Musical Guide I've been watching all the musicals (95% for the first time) and now I'm almost to the end! If you've seen every episode of the Anime and live action drama (PGSM), the Musicals are well worth your time. I've become an avid fan a lot quicker than I thought I would! I think I'd even place the Musicals over the Sailor Moon Anime!

And as I mentioned in my previous post, the official site has updated it's layout for the New Year and with it a message from Naoko Takeuchi.
Yesterday when I posted about this I sent an email off to a friend of mine who's a professional interpreter for a translation. Amazingly when I checked my email this morning, Elly (from SMFFG) emailed me with a translation as well as a graphic manipulated English version!
Furthermore, Lily (from BSSMLA) commented on the post and after speaking with Yosenex (a friend of mine and hers) gave me his translation.

It just really touched me that people would go out of their way to help me like this. So THANK YOU Elly, Lily, Yosenex and my anonymous friend.

In order, here's the professional translation:

Princess Naoko's Room:
We will upload from now and then letters or photos received from Ms. Naoko Taketuchi aka Princess Naoko to this room.

"Last fall, Princess Naoko visited BANDAI Hobby Center in Shizuoka and had a site tour of GANPURA or Gandam Plamodel (plastic model) production lines and she said she had lots of fun. So it's basically about a visit to Bandai and an artwork she drew. What it doesn't mention is that Gundam is celebrating it's 30th Anniversary this year in Japan and several famous manga artists have drawn their characters in Gundam situations or costumes. Cool news is that it looks like the Sailor Moon Channel will be more active this year!

Miyuki Kanbe's Musicals 

I'm continuing the Second Stage Sailor Moon Musicals with three of the late Miyuki Kanbe's musicals which form the "Last Dracul Trilogy" (musical 1, musical 2 and musical 3) and the first musical of Marina Kuroki, Birth of the Princess of Darkness, Black Lady which also features one of the early Chibi Usa's returning in the role of the adult Black Lady!

Hope you all like them and find them useful! The hours and hours put into writing the summaries, taking the screencaps and coding the pages really takes it's toll. Shopping info will be added at a later date for those interested.

I know I say this all the time, but if you haven't seen a Sailor Moon Musical yet, don't just watch the random clips on YouTube. Check out an entire musical. It's a completely different experience!

P.S. On a more personal note, I'd like to thank everyone who's emailed me this past week (not you, Mr Viagra or you Miss Fat Loss) to wish me happy holidays, give me feedback or even ask me a question. I think any Sailor Moon webmaster would agree that friendly emails from people who read your site not only motivates you but inspires you to make an even better site.

Sailor Moon Anime Missing Episodes 

Some of you may have noticed that I've been cleaning up the Sailor Moon Anime Season One Episode Guide page a bit by cleaning up the coding, writing some more information and finally doing the episode guides for the famous "Missing Episodes" that were never adapted into English by DiC!

Currently three have been written and prettied up with screencaps:

Sailor Venus' Past, Minako's Tragic Love
The Sailor Warriors Die! The Tragic Final Battle &
Usagi's Everlasting Wish! A New Reincarnation

I've also got the guides up for the first and second Bumper (or Eyecatch) that accompanied each Sailor Moon episode in the first season.

Slowly but surely my anime guide is getting there!

p.s. Also if you haven't checked out my revampedSailor Moon Musical (Sera Myu) page, I highly recommend doing so. The musicals are simply fantastic yet I'd say 90% of Sailor Moon fans never give them a chance. Well worth your time guys!

Sailor Moon Musical Second Stage Guides 

Been doing a bit of work these past few days on cleaning up and adding to the Sailor Moon Musical Guide.

Wrote up a much needed introduction for the page as well as some info on the First Stage musicals featuring Anza Oyama.

Also have now finished two guides for the first two musicals in the Second Stage featuring Fumina Hara, Beginning of the New Legend and Legend of Kaguya Island.

I've also been adding and fixing up other parts of the site but more on that later.

SURPRISE!!! Sera Myu First Stage Performance Guide! 

Surprise! My secret project that I've been working on in secret for the past few months is now online! Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Sailor Moon Musical (Sera Myu) First Stage Performance Guide!!!

In addition to the first musical guide which I had written last year (and has now been cleaned up) I've now added a whopping six more to the new Sailor Moon Musical (Sera Myu) page.

Here's the complete list:

I can't stress how much time went into these guides and I can now understand why no Sailor Moon sites ever have actual story summaries / guides to the Sailor Moon Musicals as most of them have a runtime of over 2 hours! which makes the whole process of watching one, writing the summary, taking the screencaps, resizing the images and making them pretty about 5+ hours each!

The rest of this week I'll be going through each one and adding bits of information here and there and making the whole thing just a bit more spiffy.

The Sailor Moon musicals (Sera Myu) has to be one of the less viewed versions of Sailor Moon and the main reason is that there's very little information about them. Hopefully this guide will make the fantastic Sailor Moon musicals more approachable and encourage a lot of new fans to give them a go.

Moonie Reflection: Sailor Moon Roundup 

First the Sailor Moon website updates:

The Japanese Official Sailor Moon site has uploaded Act 3 of the Sailor Moon S arc of the manga.

Kirari-PGSM has uploaded some more media, opened the Wiki for public editing and is getting ready for some Sailor Moon panels.

Chibiland continues to celebrate her 7th anniversary with some new cards, awards and promises of new Chibi Dolls (I grabbed one myself and you can see it in the bottom right side of the nav menu).

UsagiandMamoruUniverse.com has resorted some fan arts.

The Sailor Stars Fandub now has a chat box and the release of the first episode is coming very soon apparently. I can't wait for this.

And now my soapbox:

Miyuki Kanbe's passing is still rocking the Sailor Moon community with several updates occurring throughout the week. Instead of making a new post for each update though, I've decided to simply update the original post.

To all the Sailor Moon sites who have written heartfelt posts about how much Miyuki will be remembered and offers prayers for her friends and family, I salute you...

...but to the Sailor Moon website who emailed all members and used Miyuki's death to guilt fans into helping a fan project, shame on you. You know who you are as do your visitors and personally your whole community just lost a lot of respect from me, and I'm sure many others.

Miyuki Kanbe Passes Away 

Just read this over at TvNihon and am shocked.

Miyuki Kanbe who performed as Sailor Moon in the Third Stage Sailor Moon Musicals has passed away at age 24 on the 20th of June (yesterday). Apparently on the 18th she had a heart failure which resulted in her passing yesterday.

She was made famous by her role as Sailor Moon (she was personally my favourite) in the Sailor Moon Musicals and also starred in (the highly recommended) Kamen Rider Hibiki tv series (which also starred Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon's Jyouji Shibue).

She will be remembered.

Update: Miyuki's death is really rocking the Moonie online communities. Personally I'm still in shock at what has happened.

While browsing through several Sailor Moon Musical (Sera Myu) fansites I came across this video dedicated to her at Sera Myu Antics. It features the first edition of "Ginga no Sanctuary" (The Galaxy's Sanctuary) and is a simply beautiful and appropriate song for such an occasion.
If you're like me and you get emotional easily, prepare yourself. If this is your first exposure to a Sailor Moon Musical, I hope it inspires you to go out and watch more from the many shows performed during it's run.



Update 2: Moon Chase just posted a great collection of Sailor Moon performers' thoughts (translated into English) concerning Miyuki Kanbe's passing along with images of each person. Well worth a read and very tasteful.

Sailor Moon Musical First Stage DVDs 

I'm on a role!

Just completed the Sailor Moon Musicals First Stage DVD Shopping Guide for everyone that is interested in buying the DVDs for these great musicals.

Personally I think a lot of you will find this useful as when I was doing research on the Sailor Moon Musicals I found no real listing of the DVDs and which order to watch them in! Even a lot of large Sailor Moon Musical (or Sera Myu) websites just offer one link to an online store instead of listing the DVDs themselves.

Watching a Sailor Moon Musical can be a very daunting process if you're not a fanatic . Watching order and lingo is very confusing for the uninitiated. Hopefully this Shopping Guide will help a few of you get started. I know that I'll even be referring to it myself as I continue to work on my Sailor Moon Musical Guide.

Expect the Shopping Guides for Stages 2 - 4 in the next few days.

Kirari Super Live and Tuxedo Smoking Bomber 

Got a surprise for you today! Just finished the guide to the live action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Kirari Super Live event! Lots of fun and well worth a read! Also completed the review for the Kirari Super Live DVD which is surprisingly very different from the other DVDs in the series. As a special bonus, I've also written an attack guide for Tuxedo Mask's only live action attack, Tuxedo Smoking Bomber! New Sailor Moon Musical? - Sailor Moon Roundup 

Genvid has posted up translations from the official Japanese Sailor Moon site which has updated it's layout and several pages for the month of August. Main updates include a new Flash game and a mailbox update. Of particular interest is a response to an email about the Sailor Moon Musicals which we all know seemingly finished a few years ago; "I'm so happy to hear your daughter watches Sailor Moon! Unfortunately, the musicals are on hiatus now. Please keep supporting them so that they could some day return." Now "hiatus" is basically indirect Japanese for "cancelled" but I find it interesting that they do mention the possibility of them coming back. It's not like they say buy the anime dvds and the anime will come back. We know that ain't gonna happen. I know the musicals make a lot of their money from the amazingly expensive Sailor Moon Musical DVDs. I wonder if they are shown there's still a market, they'll start making them again? This is purely my speculation, but fingers crossed! Apparently in the August edition of NewTypeUSA, Sailor Moon is mentioned. Here's a quote written by Lily-Chan from the Genvid forums: Reader Feedback- What would you remake? We posed this question to visitors of newtype-usa.com: Which anime (made before the year 2000) would you like to see a modern-day remake of. Here are some of the responses. I would say Sailor Moon. I'd like it if the first and second season were redone to look more like the animation style of Sailor Stars. It'd also be nice to have one really good voice cast do the entire series, and have Sailor Stars finally released in the US. And of course it'd be especially nice to have uncut and unedited dubbed versions too. That would be the greatest fangirl moment for me, especially since Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever watched. -Sue-chan Nice to see fans keeping Sailor Moon in the spotlight. Sailor Moon Musical (Sera Myu) DVD Review 

Man, it's been a busy week! I'm scouring the net today in search of Sailor Moon news worthy of tomorrow's Sailor Moon Roundup but for now you can enjoy my review of the first Sailor Moon Musical DVD right HERE. It's my first review of a Sailor Moon musical DVD. Hope you like it!

Be in a Sailor Moon Musical! (Interview) 

I can't remember how I stumbled across the The Ohio SeryMyu Group but as soon as I did I knew I just had to email Amanda and ask her for more information about this Sailor Moon musical group she's putting together.

Thankfully she agreed and this is the interview we had over several emails. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for taking the time for this interview! Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

My name's Amanda, I'm 19 years old. I first got into Sailor Moon when I was a little girl, and it's been with me ever since.

I discovered the Sailor Moon Musicals not all too long ago, but fell in love with them immediately. I've been a big fan of musicals for many years, so I definitely was excited to see both interests come together to create an amazing stage production.
Currently I'm working to go to college in the future. Eventually, I would like to travel and experience different cultures and languages first hand.

Wow. You're only 19 and you're organising your own theatre group pretty much! What kind of things do you expect your group to do?

For now, we're taking things kind of slow, while we get to know each other better. We have one performance planned for the group at the moment, which will just be one song. From there, I'll have a better idea of how everyone does in an actual performance, and be able to take the group to a new level.
I hope to be able to perform many songs with the group, and make memories as friends doing something we all enjoy.

I guess I have to ask, you'll be singing the Sailor Moon Musical song in Japanese right? How's everyone's Japanese in the group?

Sailor Moon Roundup 

I just realised that this is the 302nd post since Moonkitty.NET started using Blogger technology in 2004! Cool, huh?

Anyway, on to the Roundup.

This week was pretty big with the news that Sailor Moon Movie might still be coming soon, though everyone seems to think (and with good reason) that this is just a rumour. [scroll down for the full article]

I stumbled across some very rare Sailor Moon footage that I'd never seen before, taken from the old Sega Saturn game posted HERE. Pretty cool, just when you think you've seen it all! The Outers in the SuperS anime season though in the Sailor Stars anime style.

The Genvid forums have a very full on discussion going on HERE about your favourite keyframe animator on the Sailor Moon anime. My fandom isn't to the point where I know the animators' names, but if you're is you should check the discussion out.

On a Sailor Moon Musical high last weekend I stumbled across this very rare clip of the Inner singers singing a hit JPop song on a Japanese TV show. You will have this song in your head for the rest of the week after watching this.

First Sailor Moon Musical Guide Online! 

This has taken me a lot longer than I thought it would to do this! Normally an episode guide takes an hour to watch and write a guide and another half hour to take the screencaps. To do everything for a musical.... man it took me HOURS!!! No wonder Sailor Moon sites don't have in depth guides to the musicals!

The anime and live action guides are still the priority as far as guides go but I've decided to do a musical every now and then as I want Moonkitty.NET to cover all aspects of Sailor Moon.

I will be getting a proper introduction page up for the musicals like I do for the anime and live action guides but for now you can read my guide to the very first Sailor Moon musical from 1993, Alternate Legend: Dark Kingdom Revival Story!
