Hello everyone! This week we're going to look at the famed Rainbow Moon Chalice! A true rarity amongst Sailor Moon toy collectors, and most definitely a prize in my collection. ^_^;;
What it looks like: Well now, here we have an interesting box. Littered with butterflies and Super Sailor Moon on the front of the box, it's truly something to marvel at. We have pictures of the chalice open and closed on the sides, and don't forget the all important information on the backing. The box is pink, and black in color, with a wonderful view of the chalice surrounded by styrofoam. Now, the box isn't truly what's remarkable. Instead, it's the item itself. Truly gorgeous, as it's beauty up close leaves one at a loss for words. the chalice is that shiny gold and pink metallic paint, with a pink plastic base. Gems litter the upper portion of the chalice, with the all too cute crown at the top. Wings are adorably accenting the sides for all those to gawk at. Upon opening the Chalice, we have a LARGE gem that looks like it's just ready to do something really spectacular.
What it does: Upon opening the chalice, we find that the chalice begins to light up. The gem lighting up in 3 different colors, first green, then blue, and finally red. Along with this, we get that merry-go-round type of music beginning. By this I mean, it sounds as if someone is trying to start up. That slow music, going faster and faster. With the flashing of the lights going in tune with the music.
What it sounds like: Unfortunately, this is as good as it gets. As it reaches it's maximum speed, you've pretty well experienced everything there is to this piece. And there really isn't any kind of real song either. Which leaves one with a great dissappointment. And the most dissappointing of it all, it doesn't end until you SHUT the top. Open it up, and you start all over again. And believe me, I let it run, staring at it for over 5 minutes, waiting for something spectacular to happen. Alas, a small portion of a nice day, wasted
All in all, out of 10 stars, this piece gets a 7, only because of it's beauty. There are many flaws with this particular item. One being it's lack of any real enthusiasm. In my opinion, it's sound value ranks up there with the Eternal Moon Compact. Loud, noisy, and annoying.
Another set back, is the fact that this item is rather small. Upon looking at it, one would think this item would be fairly large! When in fact, this item is actually the size of a fancy cup! The item could easily fit into one hand. It may be good for cosplay purposes, but much better for the audience it was intended for, for certain.
If you're looking to obtain this item, get your wallet ready!! To receive this item in it's ORIGINAL box and in mint to excellent condition, you're going to be looking at an easy $150-$200. Expect to pay more though! I've seen this item go as high as the famous "Sailor Saturn" dolls!! O.O;; The item is a true rare when it comes to the fandom, simply because those who finally manage to get their hands on it, really don't want to let it go! And trust me, I'm no exception. Depsite it's flaws, it's beauty makes up for it all. A definite item for the advanced Sailor Moon collector, or, someone who simply would just love to obtain this item for their collection or Cosplay. (Though, I really don't recommend taking this to a con, less you want to get nagged about selling it, or, *gasp* someone actually stealing it? o.o;;)
